Date. January 8, 2003 Place - Gazipur sadar hospital, Kaliakoir, Gazipur.
Details:He was picked up by the joint forces on Sunday, tortured and later died at a hospital in Gazipur yesterday morning. According to police, a team of the joint forces picked Abdul Khaleq up from his Shafipur house at Kaliakoir after they failed to arrest his brother, a Jubo Dal leader. Abdul Khaleq was taken to the army camp in the area for interrogation.

Abu Tarek Rubel. Student
Date- December 16, 2002 Place- Boyalkhali Health Complex.
Details: He died in severe army torture.

Omar Faruk alias Tiger Faruk. Son of Abdul Khaleque. District: Narayanganj.
Date- December 16, 2002. Place- Dhaka Medical College Hospital
Details: He was arrested from Nitaiganj area of Narayanganj City at about 3pm afternoon by the Army. He was handed over to Narayanganj Upzilla Police Station from Fatullah Army Camp at night. Omar Faruk's death was caused by severe torture by the army.

Mir Zahir Hossain Robin. A student, Son of Mir Mohammad Hossain. Age- 30
Date- December 16, 2002 Place- Dhaka Medical College Hospital
Details: He died due to torture in army custody on the night. In a bid to arrest Mir Mohammad Hossain, army-led joint forces conducted an operation in his residence. Failing to arrest Mir Mohammad Hossain, army took away Robin. Robin died on December 14. Doctors said, the body of Robin carried marks of injury.

Abdus Sattar Pramanik Dealer. Established millionaire businessman
Date- December 10, 2002
Details: An army team picked up Abdus Sattar from his residence on charge of alleged involvement in drug and arms trading ! The businessman fell sick soon after he was taken to the army camp and later died. Hospital sources said there were marks of injuries and bruises in different parts of Sattar's body.

Shariful Mallik (26), Father- Samir Mallik. Address- On the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital Thana- Rupsha, District- Khulna Date- 8 pm, Sunday, November 24, 2002
Details: Shariful died on November 24 due to torture in the custody. Shariful was arrested on October 31 by the joint force under section 54 of CrPC. He was given a one month’s detention and was sent to the jail according to the court’s order. Jail Super informed that, Shariful was admitted into Hospital when he said that he was feeling very unwell on November 24. On the way to the KMCH, he died. Dead body was sent to the hospital for autopsy. Shariful’s family held the police fully responsible for his death. They said, two officers of police beat him black and blue after arrest. They demanded exemplary punishment of the involved person. Although visible marks of injury were not found, severe damage might have been occurred inside Shariful’s body, specially in the head. Case: a GD (no: 1383) was filed in this regard in Sonadanga thana.

Arzu Mia (35). local advisor of Jatiyatabadi Rickshaw Sramik Dal, S/O- Mohiuddin. Address- Sadar Hospital, Thana- Gazipur Sadar, District- Gazipur Date- Afternoon, Monday, November 25, 2002
Details: Arzu Mia died in torture in army custody on November 25, at about 8:15 pm. He was arrested by the combined force from the Bora area of the Pourashova. When he was brought to the Sadar Hospital on November 25 by the army personnel, the duty doctor said that his body was ‘totally collapsed’. He was soon sent to the Dhaka Medical Hospital. He died there at 8:15 pm.local sources said that Arzu was severely beaten after he was arrested. His wife informed that , Arzu was taken to the Rice Research Institute and was beaten inhumanely by the army personnel. Advocate Mizan alleged that legs and hands of Arzu broken totally due to torture.

Masum. Address- Dhaka Medical College Hospital Thana- Fatullah, District- Narayanganj Date- Night, Monday, November 18, 2002
Details: Masum Arif Hossain alias Anwar broke into the house of Mr. Rokonuddin of the same locality and started to steal the parts of
the private car (Dhaka Metro-bha-3940). At that time, the guard of the house caught him red-handed and started to beat him. After a while, an army van came up and took him away. They handed over him to the police in a critical condition. Masum was admitted into Dhaka Medical College Hospital at that night. He succumbed to his injuries on November 21 night. Masum’s home district is in Mymensingh. DMCH source confirmed that there were clear marks of injuries all over his body.

Tasu Mia, artist and BNP activist Address- Dhaka Medical College Hospital Thana- Dhanmondi, District- Dhaka Date- Night 2:00 am, Wednesday, November 20, 2002
Details: Tasu Mia who was an artist of ‘Rangdhanu Art’ of Nilkhet died in the torture in army custody. The army personnel arrested Tasu along with his associates Arju, Kiron and Shaju on November 19. They also took him to Azimpur BatTola and was searching for illegal arms. At one moment, Tasu fervently wanted to give him some water to drink. At about 4 am, one army officer took him to the DMCH where the duty doctor declared him death. Tasu Mia’s wife said, he was not a convicted criminal. No case was previously filed against him. She also said his husband was inhumanely tortured by the army. Clear marks of injury was found in his body. Tasu Mia’s baby daughter Iti showed the journalists some marks of injuries in his father’s dead body.

Abdul Khalek (40), Tailor. Address- Abdullahpur, Thana- Keraniganj, District- Dhaka Date- Morning, Tuesday, November 19, 2002
Details: Abdul Khalek died in torture in the army custody on November 19, 2002.Police sources said that, the army personnel of Kenakhola camp handed over Abdul Malek to the SI Abdul Kader of Keraniganj thana. At that time, he was severely injured. He succumbed to his injuries when police admitted into Sallimullah Medical College Hospital. There were clear marks of injuries in different parts of the body. The army personnel said that they have recovered the body from Abdullahpur Highway. But the family sources said that he was death due to torture in the custody.

Jahirul Islam (32). Address- Postogola IG gate, Thana- Shampur, District- Dhaka Date- Noon 12:30, Tuesday, November 19, 2002
Details: Jahirul Islam Mia alias Mia Bhai was found dead near the IG gate at noon. Local sources said that, on November 19, the army personnel went on action in the locality. They arrested Joni, Liton, Kajol who were the associates of Mia Bhai. At that time Mia Bhai was trying to flee, but arrested by the army personnel. The army sources informed that he died because of mass beating.

Haji Abul Kashem (73). Address- Tangail General Hospital, Thana- Dhonbari, District- Tangail Date/Time- Evening, Sunday, November 10, 2002
Details: Abul Kashem was a regular patient of high blood pressure. He was taken away by the army personnel. And the following day, he was transferred to the police. He became seriously ill in the custody and died immediately.

Abu Sufian, S/O- Abdul Hamid Bepari, 46 no. Ward BNP activist Address- Mohammadpur, Thana- Mohammadpur, District- Dhaka
Date/Time- Night, Friday, October 8, 2002
Details: Army personnel took him away in their custody for nabbing illegal arms. He died in the custody on October 9 at night. Family sources said that he was tortured brutally in the custody. There were marks of severe injury in the different parts of his body. No case was
earlier filed against Abu Sufian.

Saiful Islam (22), Juba Dal activist, father- Nur Islam Driver. Address- Bashpara, Thana- Chahalnaiyan, District- Feni
Date/Time- 10 AM, Morning, Friday, November 08, 2002
Details: Saiful was taken away by the army personnel from the Bashpara area. He was taken to the army camp and faced an interrogation period there. At that time he became ill and was transferred to the police at about 5 pm. Police took him to the Chagalnaiyan Hospital and as his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Feni Sadar hospital. There, the duty doctors declared him death at about 5:30
pm. His body was taken for autopsy. Several signs of injury were found at different parts of his body.

Rashedul Hasan Rashed (2, Asst. director of FDC, S/O- Abdul Malek Address- Tejkunipara, Thana- Tejgaon, District- Dhaka City
Date/Time- Evening, Thursday, November 07, 2002
Details: On November 2, 2002, Saturday, at 9 pm, Rashed was watching TV at his home. At that time, the army personnel raided the place. They also searched Rashed’s uncle’s house and found nothing. Instead they took away Rashed while leaving the place for no reason. In the army camp, Rashed became seriously ill. On November 03, Rashed’s unconscious body was put before his house which was carried by a babi-taxi. Rashed was immediately taken to the DMCH and was admitted into Neurosurgery section. For long 4 days, he was totally unconscious. He succumbed to his injuries on the November 07. Several marks of injuries were found in different parts of his body. The autopsy report also stated that he died due to the cardio-respiratory failure caused by heavy smack on his head, knee-roll and other sensitive part of the body.

Kala Faruk. Address- Agargaon Orthopedic Hospital, Thana-Airport, District- Dhaka
Date/Time- Morning, Monday, November 6, 2002
Details: Kala Faruk was arrested by the police and taken to the Kafrul Thana for interrogation. He was brought by the police for arms recovery in front of the Osmani Hall of Tejgaon Textile Engineering College. At that time firing started from some of his followers. Police also opened fire. At that moment, Kala Faruk was shot in the leg and died of excessive bleeding. But some sources said that, Kala Faruk was tortured in the custody and then he was shot purposely by the police. Again, some one opines that Kala Faruk was most probably dead before he was shot. No one but police heard any sound of firing neither. Case: an UD case was filed in this connection at Tejgaon Thana.

Abdul Huq (30), Microbus Driver Address: Central Jail, Thana- Gopalganj, District- Sylhet. Date/Time- Morning, October 25, 2002
Details: They army personnel took him to their camp for interrogation. He was interrogated there for long 10 days. He was transferred to the police in a critical condition. In deteriorating health condition, he was admitted into Osmani Medical College Hospital and he died on
November 4, 2002.

Lebu Mia (45) Address Sadar Hospital, Thana- Nabiganj, District- Habiganj Date/Time- Night, October 30, 2002
Details: Lebu Mia along with his brother Firoz Mia and UP Chairman AKM Fakrul Islam were taken away by the army personnel. After the interrogation period, Lebu Mia became seriously ill. He was transferred into the Nabiganj Hospital in a critical condition. He was transferred into the Sadar Hospital and the duty doctor declared him death on Sunday, November 3, 2002. The two other associates of Lebu Mia also were admitted into Sadar Hospital in critical condition.

Mizanur Rahman Busha (35), Father-Late Delu Mistree, Juba Dal activist Address- Sadar Hospital, Thana- Chuadanga Sadar, District- Chuadanga Date/Time- Noon, October 29, 2002
Details: He was arrested by the army personnel under 54 article. When he was transferred to the police on October 30, they wanted 10 days remand for him. The Court granted 3 days remand. In the remand, he became seriously ill. He died On November 1 in the morning he died. His son claimed that there were serious marks of injuries in the different parts of the body which denotes that he died of brutal torture.

Abu Sayeed Delu (24) Address- Moakhali Chest Hospital, Thana- Begumganj, District- Noakhali Date/Time- Evening, Tuesday, October 22, 2002
Details: He was taken by the army members on October 22 night. He was transferred to the Begumganj Thana with others. His physical condition started to deteriorate and henceforth he was transferred to Moakhali Chest Hospital. He fought with death for long 6 days and succumbed to injuries on October 29 noon. Case: A case was filed at Kafrul thana.

Jennifer Sayed King (25), Convenor of Dist. Chhatra Dal. Address- Panchagar Adhunik Sadar Hospital, Thana- Panchagar Sadar,
District- Panchagar Date/Time- Evening, Tuesday, October 29, 2002
Details: Sayed King and Chhatra Dal leader Liton (25) were taken away by the army personnel for the charge of toll collection. Sayed became seriously injured in the army custody for excessive torture in the camp. In the deteriorating health condition, he was transferred to Panchagar Sadar Hospital. But he was again taken to the hospital in a critical condition. At 9 am, October 30, he succumbed to his injuries. The police authority said that they receive King from the army and at that time he was seriously injured.

Tota khan (37), S/O-Mochan Khan. Address- Sadar Hospital, Thana- Madaripur Sadar, District- Madaripur. Date/Time- Late Night, Wednesday, October 30, 2002
Details: They army personnel took him to a place of village Shirkhara for the purpose of arms recovery. Finding nothing there, he was being taken back in his own place. On the way, he faced a severe heart attack and died on the spot. His body was sent to the hospital and autopsy was made in the presence of a first class magistrate.

Jamir Uddin (33), Timber Trader. Address- Dhaka Dakkhin Union , Ramgar Village, Dattarail Villages Upazilla- Golapgonj, District- Sylhet Date/Time- 5:10 pm,Tuesday, October 29, 2002
Details: He was taken to the Army camp along with local businessman Abdul Manna. There he was tortured by the army personnel. At 4:10 pm, Jamir was taken to Golapganj Upazilla Health Complex. Duty doctor declared him death. The body was transferred to the police who was then sent for autopsy. The local sources confirmed that he was taken to the Dhaka Dakkhin School Math army camp and tortured brutally there.

Kala Chand Tripura (45), Police Constable. Address- Rajshahi Police Camp, Thana- Pekua, District- Cox’sBazar
Date/Time- Night, Thursday, October 24, 2002
Details: Kala Chand (No-329) was at duty on October 24. At that time some army personnel came on the camp. Despite, Kala Chand revealed his identity; one of the officers termed him as the member of ‘Shanti Bahini’. They hit him hurt on the head with baton and kicked him with their boot. Kala Chand was terribly injured. He was taken to the hospital by his colleagues. He fought with death for 4 days and
succumbed to his injuries at Chittagong Medical Hospital. Kala Chand had been working in the police force for long 28 years. Why he had to die? The higher officials of the police denied speaking a single word about his death.

Abdul Hossain Litu, S/O Wazed Ali Address. Savar CMH, Upazilla- Savar, District- Dhaka. Date/Time- Noon, Monday, October 28,2002
Details: Linton, Faruk And Alamgir were seized by the army personnel before Savar Smriti soudha Balaka area. Among them, Linton was seriously injured and he died consequently. Linton is inhabitant of Muradnagar In Comilla. When see the army, Linton tried to flee but he fell from the top roof and was seriously injured. He had a fracture in the backbone. In the critical condition, he was admitted into the CMH. He succumbed to injuries there.

Masum Biswas (35), Father-Hasan Biswas, Juba League Leader and cousin of former AL MP Sheikh Helal of Bagerhat. Address- Heraz Market of K. Road, Thana- Khulna Sadar, District-Khulna Date/Time- 2 am at night, Tuesday, October 22, 2002
Details: Masum Biswas was taken away by the army force from his residence on October 22. He was tortured inhumanly in their camp. As a result, he became seriously ill and injured. He was taken to the Khulna Medical College. As condition deteriorated, he was transferred to the Dhaka Medical College. He succumbed to his injuries there on October 27. His dorsal spine was totally fractured. Even after his death, journalists were told lies. His body was found at the balcony of ward no: 8 in stead of ward no: 26 as was falsely stated by the law enforcement agency.

Abdul Aziz Sardar, General Secretray of Pangsha Upazilla BNP. Address- Sadar Hospital, Thana- Pangsha, District- Razbari
Date/Time- Dawn, Sunday, October 23, 2002
Details: The victim was taken away by the army to their camp and was tortured inhumanly which lead him to death. He was frightened and tried to flee to see the army. But he was caught by the army and beaten to death. He died at 10 PM on October 25, 2002.

Khorshed Alam (35), Day Laborer. Address- Before Islamia Hospital of Choumuhini Bazar, Thana-Begumganj District- Noakhali
Date/Time- Friday, October 25, 2002
Details: The victim along with other day labourers Nizam(2, Omar Faruk(19), Jhuton(22) was seized by the army force. On the spot, they were severely beaten. He was admitted into Bazra Hospital in critical condition after transferred into Begumganj Thana. He died at 9 am of October 26, 2002. All this happened in front of an army Major. The innocent people were taken as ‘convicted criminal’. Dead body was taken to the hospital for biopsy.

Julhash Bepari (57). Address- Kamargaon Village, Thana- Sreenagar, District- Munshiganj. Date/Time- 3 am night, October 25, 2002
Details: On October 25 night, SI Shahajahan with wis force came to Julhash’s house and arrested him.At about 3 at night, Julhash became seriously ill. He was first admitted into Sreenagar Health Complex and then transferred into Dhaka Medical College. On October 26 in the morning he died. Family sources confirmed that he died in the police custody because of excessive torture.

Nazmul Islam Milon (40), S/O- Abdur Rahman, BNP activist, Gateman of Barnali Cinema Hall Address- Ambagan Area, Thana-Rajpara, District- Rajshahi Date/Time- 4:30 pm, Wednesday, October 23, 2002
Details: He was taken by the army members on October 23 night from the ticket counter of Barnali Hall. When he was transferred to the Rajshahi Medical College at 11:30 pm, he was declared death by the duty doctor. The forensic report confirms that he was tortured in the custody. His father said in the grievance that he never seen anything like this even in the Ayub Khan’s Marshall Law period. Case: an UD case was filed at Razbari Thana(Case No: 313, 24.10.2002)

Saifuz Zaman (35). Address- Kharda Rasulpur Village of Jamalpur Union, Thana- Shadullahpur District- Gaibandha
Date/Time- Night, Monday, October 21, 2002
Details: He was taken by the army members on October 21 night. At army camp, he was tortured inhumanly and died on the camp. On October 23, the postmortem of his body was made before the first class magistrate Kiron Chandra Roy. The postmortem was made in the Hospital morgue. Case: A case was filed at Kafrul thana.

Amirul Huq Rocket Chowdhury (35), General Secretary of Bhola Sramik League. Address- Vola Medical College Hospital, Thana- Bhola Sadar, District-Bhola Date/Time- Evening, 5:45 pm, Tuesday, October 22, 2002
Details: He was taken by the army members on October 22 night. At army camp, he was tortured inhumanly. When he was taken to the hospital, the duty doctor declared him death.

Afzal Hossain (30), S/O- Chand Mia, Businessman of Savar Poultry Farm. Address- Army Custody, Thana- Savar, District- Dhaka
Date/Time- 1:30 am, Monday, October 21, 2002
Details: He was seized by the army members and was beaten black and blue before American Plaza Market. After that he was brought before his house and ordered to show arms. At that time he was totally unable to speak nor move. In this condition he was pushed through the pond. As a consequence of this, he died in the spot at night of October 21. The dead body was recovered from the army camp. Family sources said, he was died due to torture. Case: An UD case was filed showing it as death due to ‘Heart Attack’.

Abul Khair Roton Molla (50), Freedom Fighter Commander and BNP Leader. Address- Army Custody, Thana- Kashiani, District- Gopalganj Date/Time- Afternoon, Saturday, October19, 2002
Details: Abul Khair was brought dead in the Gopalganj Sadar Hospital by the army personnel. Acknowledging his death, the Civil Surgeon of Gopalganj confirmed that he was brought to the hospital after his death at about 4:30 pm. Family sources said that he died of heavy torture in the custody.

Jahangir Hossain, Businessman. Address- Baunia Barrage, Thana- Uttara, District- Dhaka Date/Time- Night, Wednesday, October 16, 2002
Details: Jahangir was a fish trader. He was arrested by the army personnel. He was blindfolded and taken to the army camp of army stadium. Family sources confirmed that he died of heavy torture in the army custody on October 18. His corpse was not even handed over to the family members.

Yakub Ali. Address- Chalabon, Thana- Uttara, District- Dhaka. Date/Time- Late Night, October 16, 2002
Details: Yakub Ali died in the army custody on October 18 night. Yakub was taken away by the army personnel to their camp of Mirpur Army Stadium. His family did not receive any sort of information about his whereabouts. He was brutally tortured in the army custody. His wife said that he died following an altercation with the younger brother of an army officer with land property. As a result of that, he died although no case was filed against him. Case: A case was filed following the land dispute with the younger brother of the army officer at Uttara thana. Case No: 57(, 2002, article 147/148/143/427/526 Penal Code.

Sariful Islam. Rickshaw-Van Puller. Address- Gopalpur, Thana- Sherpur, District- Bogra. Date/Time- October 17, 2002
Details: Some people were demonstrating for arresting a local political leader. At that time army personnel opened fire. As a result, rickshaw-puller Sariful died on the spot. Some 5 others were also received bullet injury. Among them Mojahid(15), Nazrul (2, Jahangir(27) and Khaza (35) were admitted into the hospital. All these took place in front of the local BNP MP and transport
businessman Golam Mohammad Siraj.
